Drop kick that drop shadow...

So I love me some drop shadow but I saw a recent page made by a friend in the “App Scrappers—Simply Project Life” Facebook group that BLEW.MY.MIND! Seriously?! It opens up a whole new design avenue style without leaving the app!! I’m hyperventilating about it even as I type. I can’t believe I even took time to create this post but I just had to share.

So, the page that inspired me looked something like this (this is my take on it):

It had one row of photos and the rest was black journaling cards (from the ABC Themed Cards Black & White) and the background was black too. She had journaled in some of those cards with white writing. The affect looked like one solid scrapbook page. For reals guys?! This is a game changer for me when I realized, if I turned off the drop shadow option, I could use any color I wanted. I just had to share! [oh just shut up and show me an example!]...okay okay!!

So a different colored background and journaling cards would look like this:

Here is how I did it:

1) IMPORTANT: Before you start your page make sure the drop shadow option is turned off in your preferences. You can’t change this option mid page if you decide you don’t want the drop shadow. On the home page select the question button with the green question mark. Then select Preferences.

The drop shadow is turned off when it’s slid to the left.

2) Pick your template, drop in your pictures, then fill all empty sections with the same solid journaling card. (Before you select your solid color card make sure that that color is a background option first.)

3) Select same color of solid journaling cards for background color.

4) So then we PLAY!!!! There are so many things you can do. Add overlays, journaling, a larger title!

This was a pretty simple layout using Design A and the Currently Edition but the possibilities are endless! Below are some more examples of what can be done:

Sweater Monster:

This is Design A with the same 4x6 journaling card from Moments Like These. But I had to do a little tweaking to get those bottom 4x6 cards flipped (I will devote a whole post to the possibilities of this technique).

1) Open collages. Select the 4x6 layout. Insert the 4x6 journaling card. Export and save to camera roll.

2) Return to layout. Select THE PHOTO option for bottom 4x6 card sections. Your exported card should now be a photo. Rotate it so the dots are along the bottom.

The Sings My Soul:

A pretty simple one! Sometimes you want your picture to steal ALL the attention. This is Big Shot 15 with Seafoam Edition solid colored journaling cards. I journaled in the bottom two 4x3 journaling cards and made the font bigger in the upper card.

If you want more inspiration see my follow up post here. And now I am off to make a gazillion more pages!!

  3. So great! And the pages give the "feel" of the old put-pictures-on-cardstock method of bygone years! Can't wait to mess around with this a little more!
